Celebrity Weight Loss Stories; Bert Kreischer, Nate Bargatze, and Claudia Oshry Weight Loss

With celebrity weight loss stories so prevalent in online news today, many people interested in the latest and greatest diet plans look to the stars for what they do to keep themselves fit and looking great. But are these diets safe, and do they work? This article examines what some of today’s most popular stars, including Bert Kreischer, Nate Bargatze, and Claudia Oshry, are doing to shed pounds and stay fit.

Celebrity Weight Loss – Bert Kreischer Weight Loss

Comedian Bert Kreischer has a funny “fat guy” routine that influences much of his stand-up act. He’s well known for performing shirtless standup comedy, proudly displaying his beer belly in the spotlight. But due to his new weight loss plan, his on-stage overweight persona may be coming to an end.

It’s unclear just how long it’s been since Kreischer began his fitness journey, but he told Men’s Journal that he started a strict fitness and weight loss plan in preparation for doing his own stunts for a 2023 movie he starred in called “The Machine.”1

On social media, Kreischer reports losing 45 lbs., but in addition to losing the weight, his before-and-after photos reveal that he has toned his muscles as well. “I worked out really hard. Every morning I ran four miles and would lift weights,” says Kreischer.1

The Bert Kreischer weight loss plan includes the keto diet, but he explained in a YouTube video that he mostly eats meat and has completely stopped eating carbs and drinking alcohol.2

What Is the Keto Diet?

The ketogenic, or “keto” diet, is an eating plan that eliminates sugar, alcohol, and other carbohydrates. A typical keto meal includes foods high in fat and protein (e.g., bacon, ground beef, eggs, butter, coconut oil, nuts, and avocado), vegetables, and limited amounts of lower-sugar fruits such as raspberries.

The keto diet aims to promote a state of ketosis in the body, which changes how the body utilizes food for fuel, burning fats for energy instead of carbohydrates. The diet requires you to eat 75% of your calories from fat  (20-35% constitutes a non-keto diet), 15% from protein, and 5% from carbohydrate sources daily.3

Is The Keto Diet Safe and Effective?

Nutrition experts say some risks accompany the keto diet, including:3

  • Nutrient deficiencies
  • Constipation
  • Hypotension (low blood pressure)
  • Kidney stones
  • Heart disease (particularly when eating a lot of saturated fats)

The keto diet is not considered safe for people with pancreatic, liver, thyroid, or gallbladder conditions.3

As far as effectiveness goes, the keto diet often promotes weight loss in the short term but is known as being unsustainable as a long-term eating plan. Nutrition experts say that often you gain back more weight than you lost when you go off the keto diet.3

Nate Bargatze Weight Loss

Nate Bargatze, known for several successful television specials, such as “The Tennessee Kid,” is another comedian who has undergone a dramatic physical transformation via a recent weight loss plan.

Bargatze is a native of Tennessee, thus the name of his TV special, but he started in comedy in Chicago before expanding his horizons to the New York City comedy club scene. He eventually landed a gig on the Saturday Night Live stage and appeared on Late Night with Conan O’Brien and The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

It’s obvious by viewing online before-and-after pictures that Bargatze has slimmed down, but he’s not making many formal announcements about the Nate Bargatze weight loss plan or taking credit for how, exactly, he lost the weight. Instead, in classic Bargatze style, he jokes about how to get rid of your “workout buddy” neighbor during the COVID lockdown and tells people in jest he once weighed 300 pounds to boost their perception of his weight loss efforts.4

But regardless of Bargatze’s reluctance to speak publicly about his weight loss journey, some sources report that Bargatze lost weight by combining a healthy diet with a regular exercise regime. His diet included fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats. Nate’s workout routine involved regular cardio, such as cycling, running, and strength training, like lifting weights, to burn calories and build lean muscle.5

Claudia Oshry Weight Loss

Comedian Claudia Oshry engaged in a five-month weight loss program and reportedly lost 70 lbs on Ozempic. Although 70 lbs is a remarkable undertaking in such a short period, perhaps even more impressive is that Oshry has maintained her weight loss even after going off Ozempic.

The Claudia Oshry weight loss plan involved taking Ozempic, but Oshry also employed a long-term strategy to keep her weight off. When you stop taking GLP-1 medications—such as Ozempic—it’s crucial to make sustainable lifestyle changes to prevent weight gain. Oshry says she followed the lifestyle suggestions by using WeightWatchers as a group support tool, adhering to a high-protein diet, and exercising regularly.6

What Is Ozempic?

Ozempic is a long-acting injectable medication classified as a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist. This type of medication increases insulin secretion by mimicking the action of a hormone in the body that lowers blood sugar.

Although the drug is FDA-approved to treat type 2 diabetes, it’s also scientifically proven to have weight-loss effects. Because of these weight loss properties, Ozempic is often prescribed as an off-label drug to treat obesity. An off-label drug is prescribed to treat a condition other than those approved by the FDA.

Ozempic Studies

Based on the results of a 2022 study, taking Ozempic for six months resulted in an overall weight loss of 10.9%. In follow-up studies (i.e., over 68 weeks), the weight loss averaged 15% to 18%.7

Frequently Asked Questions

How do celebrities lose so much weight so fast?

Celebrities often achieve rapid weight loss through a combination of strict dieting, intense exercise regimens, and professional guidance from nutritionists and personal trainers. Additionally, some may undergo drastic measures such as crash diets or medical interventions, though these approaches may not always be sustainable or healthy in the long term.

Did Oprah take Ozempic to lose weight?

While Oprah Winfrey has publicly discussed her struggles with weight loss and her use of various methods and programs, there’s no definitive evidence to suggest that she specifically used Ozempic for weight loss. Ozempic is a medication approved for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and has also been shown to aid in weight loss for some individuals. However, any decision to use Ozempic or any other medication for weight loss should be made in consultation with a healthcare provider.

What is the 30 30 30 rule for weight loss?

The 30 30 30 rule is a simple guideline for portion control, where a meal consists of 30% protein, 30% fat, and 30% carbohydrates. This rule aims to create balanced meals that provide essential nutrients while helping to control calorie intake and promote weight loss or weight maintenance.

Can you lose 100 pounds in 3 months?

Losing 100 pounds in three months is an extreme and unrealistic goal for most individuals. While significant weight loss is possible within that timeframe, aiming for such rapid weight loss can pose serious health risks and is generally not recommended. Sustainable weight loss typically occurs at a rate of 1-2 pounds per week, achieved through a combination of healthy eating, regular exercise, and lifestyle changes. It’s important to set realistic goals and prioritize overall health and well-being when embarking on a weight loss journey.
