Finasteride, the generic form of Propecia, is an extremely popular, affordable, and effective medication for male pattern hair loss. It’s been around for nearly three decades and helped literally millions of men to stop losing their hair, and even regrow hair, leading to higher qualities of life. Compared to many “gimmick” treatments, with dubious results, finasteride delivers, helping over 80% of men stop losing hair, with regrowth rates over 60% after two years of treatment. Topical creams and crazy gadgets, “as seen on TV,” can’t match those kinds of successes! That’s why finasteride reviews are generally so positive no matter where you look online or in print to read them.
Further, unlike hair transplant surgery, which can be time-consuming, painful, and costly, finasteride is relatively safe and extremely affordable – a one month supply costs less than $1/day. The convenience and cost factors are another contributor to the overwhelmingly positive finasteride reviews from most customers.
With all of that said, it can be challenging to know what you may be in for, or how much of the acclaim for finasteride is “marketing” vs. actual customer experiences. Of course, you can’t know exactly how well finasteride may work for you, or what side effects you may experience until you try it. But, reading finasteride reviews from actual customers who have taken finasteride can provide some of that insight, giving you a better sense of what to expect in terms of side effects, routine, and results, before you decide to purchase the product. To that end, we’ve compiled a brief guide below, covering the basics of finasteride and then highlighting nearly 2 dozen finasteride reviews that we’ve received from satisfied customers at Invigor Medical.
Before we get to the finasteride reviews from our customers, it’s useful to recap the basics of finasteride – what it is, how it works, and so on. We’ve covered this in much greater detail in separate articles, of course, but for the sake of convenience, a condensed version can be found below.
Simply put, finasteride targets the cause of male pattern hair loss – DHT, a compound synthesized in the body from testosterone. By inhibiting an enzyme that is necessary for that synthesis process, the amount of DHT in the body is decreased significantly. While DHT is critical for children and young adults, post-pubertal adults do not see significant side effects from reducing their DHT levels. DHT tends to accumulate in, among other places, the hair follicles of the scalp and is directly implicated in causing the die-off and loss of hair associated with male pattern baldness. Therefore, finasteride is effective at decreasing the rate of hair loss, and even triggering regrowth of hair over time, by preventing excessive levels of DHT from being synthesized or stored. It does this with minimal side effects as well, such that it is generally regarded as safe for long-term use – as you’ll see in the finasteride reviews we highlight below.
However, it is not a suitable hair loss treatment for females because of how finasteride works. The pathology of female hair loss is significantly different on a biological level than classic male pattern hair loss (androgenic alopecia), and cannot be treated in the same manner. Nevertheless, as many as 80% of all men will experience some levels of male pattern hair loss or male pattern baldness in their life, with a large portion experiencing symptoms as early as their 30s. There’s a huge market for finasteride and the benefits that it can provide to men.
Finasteride is only available by prescription from a licensed doctor. Though generally regarded as safe, it is still a potent medication. If misused, it can cause harmful outcomes – especially if handled or ingested by pregnant women or those with an allergy or sensitivity to the medication. In order to obtain finasteride, you need to discuss your medical history, current medications, supplements, herbal remedies, and health conditions with your prescriber, in order to determine if finasteride is safe and recommended for you. If approved, you can start to see real results from finasteride in around 3 to 6 months, with a majority of men seeing hair regrowth after two years of consistent use. This is borne out in the finasteride reviews we’ll feature below from some of our happy customers!

“When I started losing my hair, I knew I needed to take action. I work in sales, and appearance is an important part of the job. It took a few months, but with finasteride, I definitely saw less hair on my pillow every morning, and more of it still on my head where it belongs.”
Jerry, Minneapolis, MN
“I honestly wish I had tried finasteride earlier. I started going bald in my early 30s, and didn’t think much of it. Fast forward to today, I’m in my mid-40s, and was starting to get really self-conscious about by half-bald head. After being on finasteride for over a year, my hair’s growing back! I can only imagine how much further along things would be if I did this a decade ago.”
Richard F., Oklahoma City, OK
“A lot of people are probably afraid to give their full name for a testimonial about hair loss, but I’m proud to do it. With finasteride, my hair loss was reversed – looking at me today, you would never know I had any hair problems at all.”
Kyle Richter, Modesto, CA
“My biggest concern about finasteride was the potential side effects. Turns out, the only thing that happened to me is it takes a bit longer to ‘finish’ in the bedroom. For my wife, that’s a benefit, not a side effect!”
Fred P., Chandler, AZ
“I’m a retiree on a fixed income, so I really appreciated that finasteride was extremely affordable. And, unlike a lot of those hair solutions you see advertised on late-night TV, it actually works.”
Lee, Wichita, KS
“I may not look like Denzel, but I definitely am getting more attention from the ladies now that my hair is thicker, fuller, and more natural again.”
Raymond S., Greensboro, NC
“After about 6 months, I could not freaking believe it – it was like someone used Miracle Gro on my scalp and all the sudden I’ve got new hairs popping up here.”
Frank, Jersey City, NJ
“My doctor suggested finasteride for two reasons, hair loss treatment and for my BPH [benign prostatic hyperplasia]. Since I’ve been on the medication, I can actually sleep through the night without having to get up to pee 3 times like before. To top it all off, pun definitely intended, my hair looks a lot less like a pile of thatch and more like when I was younger again.”
Juan J., Corpus Christi, TX
“Now when I take my hat off in front of people, they don’t stare at the birds’ nest on my head – it just looks like normal hair.”
Jim, Haines, AK
“Simply put, finasteride works. Best money I’ve ever spent.”
Troy Bischoff, New York City, NY
“A few years after my wife passed from cancer, my friends were encouraging me to get back out on the dating scene. That’s tough for an older guy, especially one who’d become rather fat and bald. Exercise helped me get back in shape, but I needed some help with my hair. Finasteride was that help, and though my hair hasn’t quite regained its youthful splendor, it’s definitely improved by leaps and bounds since I started taking finasteride.”
Ben, Hialeah, FL
“I first heard about [finasteride] from a friend who said it worked wonders for him when his hair started falling out. I figured I had nothing to lose, so gave it a try, and boy, was I happily surprised how well it worked.”
Michael S., Montgomery, AL
“Baldness runs in my family. When I was in college, I started losing my hair. I scoured the Internet for answers as to what I could do, and looked for a solution I could actually afford. Finasteride seemed like the best choice on my limited budget. It took a while to start working, but you would have no idea looking at me that I ever started losing my hair. Now that I’m older and have a real job, I can afford other hair loss options, but finasteride continues to work for me just fine.”
Vernon, Dundee, MI
“I was never one to care much about my hair. At some point, though, I looked in the mirror, and realized things were just a mess. If I didn’t put a little effort into my hair, what message was I sending to the world? I can’t give finasteride total credit, as I took a lot of other steps to improve my appearance, but when it comes to my hair, it did the trick.”
Paul, Long Beach, CA
“Hair transplants sounded awful, and we’ve all seen the guys with obvious plugs and toupees. That wasn’t for me. A pill I could pop once a day, that would actually help me keep my hair? That’s a total win.”
Fritz, Aurora, CO
“These days, I’m the sexiest single dad on the block. I’m so glad I tried finasteride!”
Robert Flannigan, Boston, MA
“Don’t be hesitant like me – I didn’t want to risk side effects or take a pill for something like hair loss. I tried all the creams and topical treatments instead, with no success. After urging from my girlfriend, I finally got a prescription for finasteride. Compared to other treatments, it was like night and day – 4 months on and it just gets better every day.”
Larry, Fort Wayne, IN
“Don’t be embarrassed – talk to your doctor about hair loss and finasteride. The earlier you start taking it, the more hair you can preserve, and the better your results will be.”
Dylan, Arlington, VA
“One little pill – I don’t know exactly how it works, I just know that it WORKS.”
Shawn J., Oakland, CA
“With finasteride, I have one less thing to worry about in my everyday life. You can’t keep your youth or looks forever, but something cheap and effective to help stop hair loss? I’m glad I went all in with finasteride.”
Chuck, Seattle, WA
As we discussed at the start of our finasteride reviews guide above, finasteride has been shown to not only stop hair loss, but to actually regrow new hair. This is usually a longer-term benefit of finasteride, and may take 1-2 years in order to be realized. However, in most studies and practical experience, over 60% of men experienced some level of hair regrowth after 2 years of long-term use of finasteride.
We actually have a detailed article on the side effects of finasteride which is worth reading if you are considering taking finasteride. In short, it’s generally well-tolerated, with few side effects. The most common side effects tend to be sexual in nature, including changes in libido, erectile or ejaculatory function, and similar. Flushing, lightheadedness, cold sweats, chills, or confusion are also possible. Far less common is a slight increase in the risk of high-grade prostate cancer.
You should always discuss any new medications or treatments with your doctor or prescriber before you start them. However, provided your prescriber gives you the all-clear, it is absolutely possible for most men to combine finasteride with treatments like Minoxidil or Rogaine. Indeed, many studies have found that combining treatments tends to provide better results over the long-term than simply choosing one or the other. Generally speaking, however, it’s best to start one treatment and give it time to work before you seek to add additional treatments into the mix. As with all medications, the more you are taking at once, the greater the likelihood for adverse reactions or side effects to occur.
We hope the above finasteride reviews have provided you with some insight into what most men can expect when taking finasteride. While everyone is unique, and individual results may vary, it should be clear from these finasteride reviews that most customers are satisfied to extremely satisfied with the cost and results they can obtain from finasteride use.
